As most parents do, I like to share the importance of sharing with Loa. I’d like her to be able to share her toys. I’d like her to share her time. Most of all, I’d like her to share her food…with me. I’ve found that lately, to get her to eat her food, all I have to do is ask her if I can have a bite of what she’s eating and she starts to gobble it up. Example: “Loa, you haven’t touched your sandwich. Can I have a bite?” to which she proceeds to eat it as quick as she can.

One day, though, I had a glimmer of hope. I asked, “Can daddy have a bite?” to which she looked at me and replied, “it’s a possibility” and then proceeded to gobble up her food. Dangit.

“Bye Daddy. BYE!!!”

Loa is a grumpy waker. Funny, so is her mother. As, part of her wake up routine, Loa likes to have milk and a few books. Her narrator of choice? Mom.

Today as I was getting ready to leave for work at the ‘bucks, Loa sees me walk in the room and the conversation went like this:

Loa: Bye Daddy

Me: Daddy’s not leaving yet.

Loa: Bye Daddy

Me: Daddy’s not leaving yet. Can I have a kiss?

Loa: No. BYEEEEEEE!!!

Me: Okay, guess I’m leaving then.

It’s okay, because it gave me more time to enjoy my drink at work before I walked on the floor.

Playgrounds, Poop, and Bee Stings

Here in Washington, we take advantage of warm weather. Warm to us is 65 degrees or above, so when we are at 75+ it is a heatwave. Anyway, to take advantage of the warm weather, Loa and I headed out to a park not too far from here. Loa really enjoys this park as there is a lot of toys to play on and slides to slide down and a big field to play in.

As we were playing, I noticed Loa stopped and look at me. Then she told me to “sit over there”. She’s pooping.

Father of the Year forgot the diaper bag. Nothing to change in or out of. She’s pooping and I have to figure out what to do. Think fast super dad. Think!

We lucked out as we were the only people at the park today. I quickly dumped her diaper and pulled them back up. The poop landed in woodchips so I packed it tight in the woodchips and tossed it into the field. But this isn’t the worst of it!

To top it all off, Loa didn’t want to leave, so she had to have me “chase her” in order to leave. So I chased her in the field – far from the poop area – when she began saying “ow! ow! ow!” and grabbing her foot. Instantly I knew it was a bee sting, as I had been stung in this field a couple weeks ago. I pulled the stinger out of her foot, and we headed home so that I could google bee stings in children and things to look for.

Yikes.

A lot has happened in the past few months. Oh, 6 months to be exact. Let’s see:

Loa is going to be a big sister! Cynthia and I found out around February I think. Loa has been so stoked lately. She wants to name her sister “Pickles” and carries her stuffed animals around calling them her baby sister…”Pickles”.

We bought a toddler bed and though Loa knows she can get out, she likes to drop her binkies out and ask us to come in and pick them up for her. It’s cute and a bit annoying at the same time.

Loa talks A LOT. She is in the stage where she says what’s going on, and I’m in the stage where I wonder where she picked that up from.

Most of the things she picks up that are hilarious are from a video that she watches. Usually Dinosaur Train or Charlie Brown Christmas.

Obviously more than this has happened, but this is just a glimpse as I prepare to start up blogging here again. See you soon!

They Hear What They Want

Loa and I went to KinderGym the other day. KinderGym is a local thing up where kids run around the gym to different activities, we sing songs together, play with some balls, and end with a parachute excercise and snacks. Really, it’s amazing in Loa’s eyes.

So after all is said and done, the lady who leads KinderGym says, “Alright, it’s time for some free time!” To which Loa quickly replies, rather screams, ”TREAT TIME!!!” and runs to get into line for the snacks. I was overcome with a mix of emotions. In that moment, I was so proud and so embarassed at the same time. I guess it’s the Hawaiian in her.

“Daddy, Play Guitar!”

Today I got home from work and the first thing Loa asked for was for me to play the guitar for her. Really she just wanted me to take out the guitar so that she can sit in the case. But we sang songs together. Some of her favorites? Wheels on the Bus, The More We Get Together, Old McDonald, and Pearly Shells. Really, Pearly Shells is the heart melter for me, because we used to sing that song when I was a kid and now singing it with my kid is extra special.

What a way to finish the day.

So Much To Talk About…

Wow. It’s been a while! A lot of distractions: work at SBUX, work at the church, Holidays, birthdays, and trying to be a Husband/Father. Blah, Blah, Blah!

So how are things? A lot has happened. Loa turned two in december. She also decided to talk a lot more. She’s piecing sentences together, using proper nouns instead of her name (ie: “I want milk” instead of “Loa want milk”), and she’s pushing boundaries – both physical and parental. You know, the normal stuff.

One of the things that I am very thankful for as a parent is that Cynthia and I were pretty strict on sleep schedules. She dropped two naps, but kept her afternoon nap, a long time ago. But because of our persistance (and black out curtains) 99% of the time, she will fall asleep immediately when I put her down at 11:30 and also for bed time at 7:00. Some people ask if I miss going out. I gave that up a long time ago. I’m old. Also, if we do go out, the babysitter never has to worry, because she is OUT! If you’re interested, we used the book, “the Baby Whisperer”. It’s not for everybody, but it worked well for us.

One other thing, she crawled out of her crib tonight. boooooooo! and so it begins.
